About me

I thrive working between Technology, UX design & research and Business growth & innovation. My background is Computer Science, a Master on Interactive Media and Cognitive Sciene, and a PhD on Embodied Interaction & Serious Games for Therapy. For the last 4 years I have focused on Virtual Reality as entertainment. I like to work on the conceptualization, definition, planning and development of any kind of product: Internal Tools, B2B and B2C.

Since 2012 I have been teaching in different Universities a wide range of topics such as: Interface Engineering, Interactive Systems, Robotics, Game Development Management, Game Interface Design and UX Research methods.

I hold PhD from Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF, Barcelona) in the Department of Information and Communication Technologies. My research was about exploring and assessing the potentialities and affordances of Embodied Interaction technologies for the development of Serious Games for social therapy and intervention.

I have a natural interest towards developing embodied playful interactive environments both for therapy and learning. I normally work with C++, DirectX/OpenGL, openFrameworks, OpenCV, C# and Unity.

Lands of Fog

Lands of Fog is a full-body interaction videogame based on a 6 meter diameter projection on the floor where both ASD and TD children can explore and discover unique characters, objects and events. To interact with the world, children have a magic colourful butterfly net that allows them to open a peeking hole in the thick fog that covers the virtual world and interact with the creatures and objects that live there. Some of the objects and activities in the virtual world may only be discovered if the children collaborate to trigger them or make them appear. This defines attitudes based on exploration and discovery which hopefully lead to sharing the experience through social initiation behaviours.

ArkaNeon

ArkaNeon is both an homage to the classic (and primitive) video games, where gameplay was their primary asset, and an argument standing in favour of the interactive experiences as scaffolders for promoting social communication amongst users. ArkaNeon is a whole body interactive experience aimed toward promoting the communication between its users through the use of the enforced collaboration paradigm, a game mechanic where users must cooperate between them to achieve a shared goal.

Pico's Adventure

The game “Pico’s Adventure” is a motion-based game for children with autistic spectrum disorder, aimed at promoting social initiation. The game is based on the use of Kinect motion sensing technology and designed in collaboration with the Specialized Unit on Developmental Disorders of the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu. During the game, the children will be introduced to a fantasy world inhabited by a friendly mascot (the virtual agent), named “Pico”, who will accompany them in the journey toward social initiation. Children – either alone or in collaboration with adults and peers – will have to help the mascot, an amicable alien, who landed on our planet Earth after having some problems with its spaceship.

The Puppet Master

The Puppet Master is an artistic digital interactive installation for public collective spaces. It enables a user, called the Master and located in a private hidden space, to communicate with citizens (Puppets) in public spaces. This communication is established through the use of a camera and a digital facade. The artistic installation is designed to promote a game-like communication between the Master and the Puppets. The Master uses a complete set of creative visual tools and effects to playfully interact and collaborate with the people on the street. According to the reaction of the Puppets, the Master can adapt the communication to empathize and create unique personalized experiences.

NanoZoom

A wide projection (12 x 5 meters) interactive installation with a multitouch table in its center (1,2 x 0.9 meters). The goal of the exhibits was to help users understand how small objects are in the nanoscale by designing a fullbody interactive experience. In it users can explore everyday objects in the table, and then zoom in to "shrink" themselves 10 times, seeing then objects 10 times bigger. Through different levels, users will be able to navigate up until the nanoscale and understand in a 1:1 fashion how small objects are in it.

NanoCancer

An interactive exhibit for a temporary exhibition for the science museum of Barcelona. The goal of the exhibits was to help users understand how nanotechnology can help on treating cancer.

SIIMTA

SIIMTA is a Full-body Interactive System of Music-Therapy for Children in the Autism Spectrum Disorder and other disorders such as schizophrenia. It was a tool developed for assessing music-therapist by fostering children's activity and motivation during the therapy sessions. In front a wide screen (3x2 meters) children can move their body to make some particles float around the virtual environment and explore a personalized sound scape.
